Viktor&Rolf Spicebomb

Viktor & Rolf present the male equivalent of the famous Flowerbomb fragrance (2005) and the second men’s fragrance after Antidote (2006) under the name of Spicebomb. The designer duo wanted to give men the fragrance that is Flowerbomb to women, bearing in mind that spices are for masculine scents what flower notes are for feminine.

Spicebomb comes out in January 2012 as an explosive and extroverted oriental-woody and spicy composition. Perfumer Olivier Polge blended spices with sensual undertones, creating two diametrically opposed fragrant accords: 1. the addictive and fiery one and 2. the explosive and icy one. The fiery accord contains notes of chili, saffron, leather, tobacco and vetiver. The explosive one includes bergamot, grapefruit, elemi and pink pepper.

Top notes: bergamot, grapefruit, elemi, pink pepper
Heart: cinnamon, saffron, chili
Base: leather, tobacco, vetiver

Fabien Baron designed the bottle so it looks like a hand grenade, which “triggers” with the designer’s logo. The face of the campaign is a model Sean O’Pry, photographed by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin.

The fragrance is available as 50 and 90 ml Eau de Toilette with 200 ml shower gel and 100 ml after shave balm.

3 Safe Blind Buys (Cologne)

Posted on

What exactly is a ‘blind buy’?

Well, to put it simple and short, it is when you purchase an item (today, it being a fragrance) without smelling it first. You just leave your trust (and money) in the hands of whoever you read or watched the review of that said item.

On that note, I will be telling you in my personal opinion, what three safe blind buy colognes for men are.

The first, Bleu de Chanel.

The second, Gucci Guilty.

The third, Versace Man Eau Fraiche.

If you would like to see my opinion on each of these fragrances, watch my video below.

La Nuit De L'Homme Ad

Released on March 2, 2009 Yves Saint Laurent debuted one of the most intriguing and mysterious fragrance on the market.  La Nuit De L’Homme is the perfect after-hours cologne.  It’s breakdown consists of  bergamot, cardamom and cedar all lend the fragrance a rich, masculine intensity, while hints of lavender and vetiver bring in more sensuous aromas. As a complete fragrance, the soft and strong bouquets blend together beautifully to make La Nuit De L’Homme a seductive, evening-appropriate cologne.  The bottle itself shows the strong, mysterious, masculinity scent that it gives off.  The bottle contains an over sized cap which shows the masculinity, the bottle itself is round while the cologne is a dark green showing the mysteriousness of it.  This really isn’t a fragrance that can be worn during the day, since YSL designed the fragrance to be more of a night time cologne anyway.  If you need a cologne to go with a pair of jeans, and a button down with possibly a tie, this is the cologne for you.  If you need a cologne to go out to a nice restaurant with your girlfriend or wife, this is the cologne for you.  If you need a cologne generally for the night time, this is the cologne for you.  The longevity of the cologne lasts for about 6-8 hours which is really good, especially for an eau de toilette.

Prada Amber Pour Homme Intense

Prada Amber Pour Homme Intense

Amber Pour Homme Intense is the new, reinterpreted and more intensive version of their debut male fragrance from 2006 Amber Pour Homme.Amber Pour Homme Intense defines that sophistication and masculinity of the original perfume and intensive aroma of amber with exquisite high-quality ingredients, in order to maintain the blend of tradition and modern trends that is immanent to Prada.  The oriental fougere composition highlights Italian bergamot, Somalia myrrh, Indonesian patchouli and vanilla from Madagascar as the main ingredients. Bergamot causes sparkly and fresh opening; hot and spicy resin of myrrh creates a rich and intense aroma; patchouli is attractive and seductive, while vanilla is a gentle and warm, completing the fragrance together with amber.  The bottle is designed like its predecessor: narrow and rectangular with a silver plate inscribed with the fragrances’ main notes. The new bottle is colored in intensive black, packed in an elegant gray box featuring the house logo.  Amber Pour Homme Intense is available in bottles of 50 and 100 ml EDP Intense and as deluxe edition with a high-tech spray of 100 ml EDP Intense.

Versace Man Eau Fraiche

Versace Man Eau Fraiche Ad

A sexy blend of modern notes and a classic vibe, Versace Man is a stylish, elegant blend of light, fresh, Mediterranean notes like neroli and black pepper, harmonious and elegant middle notes of cardamom and saffron, cooled with a finish of amber, Kashmir wood, and living tobacco leaves.  By far my favorite cologne ever!  I can’t tell you how many compliments I have received while wearing this cologne.  It’s good year round, at least I wear it year round, but it’s best during the spring and summer time.  I suggest wearing it a lot during the summer time, because that is when I get most of my compliments with it.  It is my “go-to” cologne when I am not sure what I should wear.  It’s an aquatic cologne, so you think that it will be light but trust me it’s not.  I spray one spray on each arm, one on the back of the neck and one on my neck.  This way it lasts all day, which is surprising for an aquatic cologne.  However it is stronger than most aquatic colognes.  It’s great for the night out to the club, bar or if you just want to hang out in town.  It’s also good for school, going to the beach or relaxing by the pool.  I would suggest it to any guy from age 16 to age 30.  The bottle is original, rectangular with rippled edges.

Flowerbomb

Flowerbomb Ad

Released in 2004, Flowerbomb by Viktor & Rolf has become New York’s #1 perfume.  Not only is it loved by almost every New Yorker, it has also become my arch nemesis in fragrance sales.  The fragrance counter that I work at in the New York Lord & Taylor store is right across from the Flowerbomb counter so trust me, sales are tough and the competition is high.  I can not hate on the perfume though because I must admit, it does smell good.  It reminds me of cotton candy due to its sweetness.  It has top notes of Bergamot and Tea, with middle notes of Jasmine, Freesia, Orchid, and base notes of Centiflora Rose and Patchouli.  Flowerbomb is a strong floral with beautiful hints of vanilla.  The scent is sweet and powdery without being too overpowering and is warm and soft on the skin. Don’t get all excited just for the fragrance itself though.  The bottle has to be one of the most creative I have ever seen.  Viktor & Rolf are always releasing Limited Edition versions, but always maintain their classic diamond shape.  Although everyone loves this fragrance, I wouldn’t recommend it to all.  I personally think that this is a fragrance for young girls.  I’d suggest it to girls anywhere from age 13 to age 25.  So, when should you wear it?  I think it goes best during the summer time.  Wear it all day, everyday.  It’s a great perfume, but I wouldn’t wear it to any formal events.  This is a powerful, yet laid-back and casual perfume that lasts the whole day so you won’t have to worry about it wearing off.
